We hit the Wall!

Day 4-Sunday, June 16
Happy Father's Day to all the dads, and to our own dads too who are with us in our memories.

Today was the longest travel day of our trip--800 miles to WALL, South Dakota.  We got up early for a 6am departure.

We left Milwaukee and traveled through Wisconsin and Minnesota to get to South Dakota.  We passed into the Mountain time zone, so picked up another hour. It took almost 131/2 hours to get here.  We decided to bonsai the first leg of the journey to get to the Badlands because we just couldn't wait to get started.   We passed on the Corn Palace in Mitchell South Dakota, and just waved as we went by.  Also passed on the museum with the world's largest s sculpture of a cow.  It was a beautiful day for driving, and we were pleasantly surprised at the great roads ( I94/I90 all the way).  We got another pleasant surprise at the gas pump.  Diesel fuel was "only" $3.62 per gallon, compared to a price of about $3.95 when we left home. (With a 100 gallon fuel tank, every penny per gallon makes a big difference!)

We are a block away from the famous Wall Drugs, and will file a full report tomorrow.  We plan to relax this evening, get a good night's sleep and hit it hard tomorrow.
