Lots of sun on Sunday...

Day 11 - Sunday, June 23 - Part 1

We relaxed last evening, and here are some of the views!  Last night we noticed the moon but we didn't realize until this morning that it was the super moon--the largest full moon of the season!
After a short light rain, we were treated to a beautiful rainbow

A view of the super moon over the horizon

We ate at the campground restaurant/bar to enjoy some local fare; before we leave, we are going to go back for an elk burger!  Our waitress was from Muncie, IN.  Those Hoosiers sure do get around!

It got down to the high 30's last night, but the sky was clear this morning, the sun is shining, and temp is up to 72.

We traveled into the city of Cody and went to mass at St. Anthony's of Padua, then went to breakfast at The Irma Hotel, a 1902 hotel that is now on the register of historic places.  The long cherry bar is supposed to be one of the most photographed places in Cody, so we had to take a pic!

Then we visited the Buffalo Bill center of the west.  What an impressive place--a collection of 5 different museums dedicated to Western cultural and natural history.
Some call it the Smithsonian of the West.  We could spend days at the facility --lots of interactive displays, thousands of Indian artifacts, historical artifacts firearms and antiques, artwork, a research center and auditorium; and of course a whole lot of stuff about Buffalo Bill.  I sure didn't pay attention very well in my history classes growing up.  I've learned so much in the last few days visiting these museums, I realize just how much I've missed.  (Must have been spending too much time on math and accounting problems!)

We went through the tunnel under the Buffalo Bill dam, which was built in 1905, designed as the tallest dam in the world.  How in the world did they know how to build things like that in 1905?

Now on to the afternoon activities....more later in Part 2!
