Giddy Up Buckaroo!

We attended our first Rodeo at the Stampede and it was full of excitement!   The grandstand was packed, and the energy was high!  There are big cash prizes for these events,($5,500 to win) so the stakes are high for the cowboys.  We saw bucking broncos, bucking bulls, calf roping, and barrel riding.  You do have to wonder who would want to take on these animals, but there are plenty of diehards out there.  Many of the cowboys were from USA, but there were several hometown boys too.  It lasted 3 hours!

We were entertained during the pre-rodeo, and during intermission by motorcycle riders who were very good, and the Stampede Show Band who put on a great show.

I got one of the CS teeshirts…they were flying off the shelves, so I was glad we got there early to get one.  They said that 300 shirts in this store sold out in a few hours yesterday!  Proceeds from the shirts go to flood relief.

We also took in some of the fun things around Stampede Park.DSCN2149

There were a lot of people…from all over the place. We saw people from as far away as New Zealand!  Transportation is via the C-Train..a mass transit system through the city, that drops you off right at Stampede Park.

Tomorrow we have tickets for the chuckwagon races and Entertainment Extravaganza…it will be a late night, so we’ll need to get a nap in before we take it all in.
