The observation deck had a section with a clear bottom, so you could see below. It was rather eerie, and several people were afraid to step out on it, even though it was totally enclosed.
From this spot, you could also see this bridge that was washed out by the flood. A lot of the buildings had signs saying “Thanks for your patience as we clean up after the flood.” but, overall, the city looks pretty good.
From this shot, you can see the Stampede grounds in the background.
The building with the curved roof is the Saddledome, which apparently still has not been fully recovered. Flood water filled up to the 18th row of seats in the arena. They have cancelled the big concerts scheduled there during the Stampede.
After breakfast, we toured the Glenbow Museum, Canada’s largest museum, which is a huge wonderful collection of all kinds of art, exhibits and minerals. Then, we walked through downtown, which had all kinds of street vendors and entertainment gearing up for the Stampede. The Stampede grounds open up after the big parade tomorrow morning. Our group has ringside seats for the parade, which should be fun.
We celebrated the 4th of July with an all-American hot dog party, complete with Root Beer Floats, served up by the rally masters.
Happy 4th of July!!
