Another Scenic Drive

Day 33 – Monday, July 15

On Monday, we traveled on Canada Highway 40 from Lake Louise to DDSCN2380-001awson Creek, British Columbia.  It was a scenic drive, but the mountains disappeared and new sights came into view.  On the way, we encountered several logging trucks…one of the main industries in the area.

Agriculture is also big here…we had to ask about the mustard colored fields—it’s canola!DSCN2379DSCN2378

Road construction is also big…there was quite a bit of activity…replacing bridges, repaving roads, etc.  In several spots, the road was down to one lane, with stop lights on each end to control the traffic flow.

We arrived at Northern Lights RV Park which is our meeting place for our caravan.  We were surprised to see so many RVs here.  The office manager said they have 18 caravans leaving for Alaska from this park this year!!  The city is positioned at the start of the Alaska Highway, so it is a perfect meeting point.

Our wagon masters and tail gunners were here to greet us with all kinds of information.  They provided a roster of our caravan buddies, and we found there are 22 rigs in the group, hailing from 17 different states. The list includes a couple from West Terre Haute, IN—what a small world!  We will have to see if there are any common connections. Oh, and our tail gunner grew up in Indianapolis,  The Indiana influence continues to follow us around.  IMG_0011-001

The tail gunners applied our identification tag and number, so that each rig in the caravan can be easily identified as part of the Fantasy Caravan group.  We’re #14.

We’ll explore the city of Dawson Creek on Tuesday, and then get ready to launch on our trip of a lifetime!
