Life on the Spit is good, but soggy! After our campfire last night, we stayed up until midnight to see if we could see the Perseid meteor shower. Unfortunately it wasn’t dark enough to see stars. I got up about 3am to try again, but no stars were out…not sure if it was not dark enough or that clouds rolled in. This morning it was raining , but still a beautiful view outside, as we watched paddleboarders move across the bay in the mist. (a little crazy tho…) It rained all day.
I found out a little more about the Homer Spit: It is the 2nd longest “spit” in the world. It is thought to be the remains of an ancient glacial moraine. They say that this is one of the few places in the world where several glaciers and active volcanoes can be viewed at the same time. After the 1964 earthquake, the Spit sank 4-6 feet!

There are tsunami warning signs along the road (they look similar to hurricane evacuation route signs in Florida), and tsunami siren tests are done weekly—makes sense, but kind of strange to see these signs. After all the rain today, I wonder if there will be a flood warning?? don’t think it ever stopped raining today, and the temperature only got up to 58. It is supposed to clear up and warm up tomorrow (thank goodness!)

The rain dampened our activities today, but we were able to catch up on bills, laundry, cleaning, etc. We will get a good night’s sleep because it’s an early morning tomorrow for our fishing trip…the boat leaves port at 6:30 am!
