We went to bed last night and woke up this morning with raindrops (water) pouring on our head! I forgot to close the vent, so we literally did get some rain inside that woke us up, but quickly closed the vent and all was ok.
Our journey today was only 85 miles, but was a little bit of
a challenge due to the rain (more water).. We went
through some beautiful areas with vineyards, and a mountain with a beautiful
waterfall, but the rain didn’t allow pictures.
We stopped at a mall to pick up things we didn’t get yesterday—a rug, a
wastebasket and trash bags, more bread (we had peanut butter and jelly toast
for breakfast today!)
Then, we continued to L’Agulhas, the most southern point of Africa where the Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean meet. Who would ever have thought that we would be in this part of the world? I love it that my watch also reminds me where I am, and I truly feel blessed to be able to enjoy times like this.
We made a fuel stop even though we had used only a half tank. We figured we would get the first fuel fill out of the way. The Rand along with litres is still very confusing...take a look at the pump! Diesel was 22.24 (per litre.)
We made it to the most southern point of Africa and were able to see where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet. (Lots of water!) It is still very weird to see the Atlantic on the west coast!
Inside, there were 71 steps on several levels to get to the top, but the reward of the spectacular views was worth it! You can see our motorhome in one of the shots.
And, speaking of water--Jim tried our motorhome shower this morning. At least the water is hot. The "shower" is the little spigot that also serves as the spigot for the sink. (I just washed my hair)And on the topic of water...we were excited to hear there was a laundry at the campground--until we saw it!
We finally got our clothes dried out!We ended the evening with a wonderful wine and cheese event hosted by our wagonmasters. They provided wines from South Africa. One of the better wines (a Pinotage--never heard of it) was from Constancia, an area we drove through a few days ago. It’s surprising how inexpensive the wines are here…anywhere from $3 a bottle to $10 a bottle for the more expensive wines. Of course, I tried them all!
It was a lovely evening as we’re getting to know our fellow
travellers a bit better. We were treated to a beautiful sunset, with a backdrop
of the lighthouse with the light on.
