GOING WILD!

In July 2021, while stuck at home during Covid, and just having lost our dog Spot,  we received an email about an interesting trip.  This is not just a normal trip...it is a South Africa safari -- in a motorhome!   After some discussion, and a phone call to find out more about it, we booked it!  Now, eighteen months later, we are ready to begin this new adventure.

We've never been out of North America, so this is quite a leap of faith!   We are travelling 18,770 miles by air.  We leave from Indianapolis, connect in Newark and then fly to Capetown.  The last leg of the flight is 14 hours long...yikes!  The longest flight we've ever taken is 3+ hours from Indianapolis to Phoenix

Once we get there, our trip will cover 2,547 driving miles, starting at Capetown and ending in Johannesburg.  We will fly to Victoria Falls for the final few days.

We will be gone for 36 days and the big question is how and what to pack???  We've been busy with checklists, packing cubes, suitcases and backpacks. The most stressful decision is how many pair of shoes to take!  We carefully thought about luggage and decided on one carry on and one checked bag each.  We are taking two-way radios, a dash cam, a couple of cameras, 2 sets of binoculars, electrical converters, rain coats, sunscreen, mosquito repellant, etc. etc.   Last minute items added were an umbrella, melatonin, a printout of the daily crossword puzzles and chocolates to give to the stewardess on the plane.

We are stocked up with our prescription for Malarone--an anti-malaria medication that is supposed to be taken 2 days before you go, daily during your trip, and 7 days after returning.  The doc says no need to risk getting malaria!

Bags are weighed and ready for our Uber pickup!  Jim's bag weighed in at 50.0 lbs!!  Mine was only 45.5 lbs--I could have packed a few more things--darn!

Getting to the airport was a breeze and made it through security without a hitch;  now just waiting for the adventure to begin!

We hope you will follow along and enjoy our wild adventure!  I hope to be able to post at least every other day, but it will depend on internet capabilities.
Can't believe we're doing this....Getting excited.....

Is Jim's suitcase heavy because of the tools he's taking along?

4.5 pounds probably equals at least two more pairs of shoes you could have taken.
Have a wonderful time. I can’t wait to hear more about this adventure.

Just thought about the camera, it probably has a lot of older pictures already in the camera Card, please, if you can delete them all, and fill them up with all the new pictures!!!
