Fall Fling!

 Thursday-Monday October 4-7, 2024

We left for our semi-annual trip to Talladega Alabama for the Nascar race.  For once, there was no rain in the forecast and the weather was perfect!  We saw a beautiful sunset our first night from our campsite on the grounds of the Speedway.

There's always so much to see and do around the track.  When checking into our campground, we saw a couple jump out of the car in front of us, grab their suitcases, and wheel them down the road to the campground...would love to know the rest of the story!

The track was full of activity, lots and lots of sunshine as well as lots and lots of people!

There were also some interesting displays we hadn't seen before, like Dude Wipes!  We got a sample (they said take 3, so we'll be able to share...ha ha!)

We saw a race on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  The racing was fantastic, with cars running 4-wide at times, creating a lot of excitement.   

Our seats are on the top row of the tower, so we have a great view.  

Of course there were plenty of wrecks..."the big one" included 28 cars on Sunday, and the race ended in a photo finish.

We enjoyed visiting with friends that we see a few times a year.  We actually first met them at Talladega more than 20 years ago!  It was fun to catch up.  They are returning from the summer in Minnesota, headed to The Villages Florida, expecting a visitor named Milton (as in hurricane.)  

As we left the track on Monday morning, you'd think we were evacuating from Florida--there was quite a backup trying to get to the highway.

We are headed west...on our way to Arizona.  We decided to make the trip an adventure (a Fall 

Fling) rather than do a long drive out west.  So, we plan to stop along the way and visit presidential museums/libraries--something different and new for us.  

Our first stop is Memphis KOA.  We needed a break after the weekend to do laundry and clean things up before we start our Fall Fling.  They must have heard I was coming because when Jim checked in at the office, they told him everything in the store is 20% off from 6-8 pm today!!  What a bonus!   

So...I have to finish this blog so I can go shopping.
