Westward Ho!

October 2-5

We began our journey West after going through our checklist multiple times, getting flu shots, and trying to remember what we probably forgot!   We will be gone for about 60 days, so packed up accordingly.  We made a weekend stop in Terre Haute to visit with mom before our trek out west.  Cora and Benjamin joined us for a night, and we were able to hit the pumpkin patch on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

That night the campground hosted a "battle of the bands", an unusual event at a campground, but it attracted a lot of interest from the locals.  Rather than battle the bands, we made an exit and joined a sister for a nice quiet dinner!

Our journey continued on Sunday morning across I70.  The Arch in St. Louis is always such an impressive sight.

We stopped in time to watch the exciting NASCAR race at Talladega.  In a typical year, we'd be at the race, but as we all know, nothing about this year is typical.  (Chase had a top five finish, and almost won!)

We got up early for a long day drive to our next stop in Oklahoma City.  We turned on Interstate 44 and remarked what a smooth and easy drive it was.  As we stopped at two different toll booths, we realized why...it was a $20 toll at each stop!  But probably worth it.  The cheap gas almost made up for the tolls; Diesel fuel is $1.89 per gallon and unleaded is $1.72.  Along with the drop in gas prices came a rise in temperature.  We changed from jeans and sweatshirts to shorts and teeshirts. YAY
